After a year of construction, the Wonder Block Parking Garage is finally open and offering free parking! The Wonder Block development at 26th and Lincoln is still underway, but the parking lot is open for the public to use.
The Wonder Block was created as a part of the “Make Ogden” Downtown Master Plan, finalized in 2020. The Wonder Block gets its name from the Wonder Bread factory that was downtown for decades, located at the now vacant lot planned for the new development. In order to ensure that the important former Wonder Bread factory property in the heart of downtown (along 26th Street between Grant and Lincoln Avenues) was redeveloped in a way that would enhance and benefit downtown Ogden, the site was purchased by the City Redevelopment Agency (RDA) in December 2016 and the old building was demolished and the site cleaned up during 2017-19.
The City Redevelopment Agency (RDA) partnered with J Fisher Company and SAR+ to design an urban mixed-use destination. The Wonder Block will provide 354 new residential units featuring high-quality amenities and walkable access to Ogden’s Arts, Culture, and Events, in addition to 6 stories of offices, street-level space for restaurants, retail, and groceries. Everything will be centered around a pedestrian-oriented urban alleyway which will extend off the already bustling 25th Street. The site boasts more than 1,000 new parking spaces and aims to serve and integrate itself with the existing fabric of Downtown Ogden.
All in all, there will be100,000 square feet of Class “A” commercial office space, 50,000 square feet of street-level retail store space, 20,000 square foot grocery store, and a Boutique Hotel. Additional residences downtown will also support lower level of crime in adjacent business areas.
