Success at the Airman’s Attic with Hill Air Force Base

As the government shut down has continued since October 1st, many government employees have begun to struggle. A variety of food pantries and other community donations have opened to help assist these families, and the Airman’s Attic is one of these. Thanks to the amazing support and donations of out community, the Airman’s Attic has been flooded with food, clothing, household goods, and other donations for those who might need it.

We received an email recently that goes a little more in depth into the Airman’s Attic:

“Thirteen days ago, we sent out an email sharing the difficult news about the challenges faced by our military and DoD community as the government shutdown dragged on. Many of you immediately asked, ‘How can we help?’ and WOW—did you ever rise to the occasion!

For days, we’ve been trying to track the incredible donations of time, food, and resources, but honestly, the generosity has been overwhelming—it’s growing daily.

Because of this community, literally thousands of pounds of food have been delivered to the base on multiple occasions. Gift cards have been purchased, food banks have opened their doors without requiring paperwork, and volunteers have shown up in force to help at the Airmen’s Attic. Cities, churches, and local businesses have organized food drives; bakeries have donated goods; even local news outlets like KSL and Fox 13 have shared your grassroots efforts.

We’ve heard so many stories of airmen and families expressing deep gratitude for being able to pick up full bags of groceries—no questions asked.

Donations have come from individuals, legislators, churches, nonprofits, and large and small businesses alike. The need is great, but together, we’ve shown the power of Operation Collaboration. Some offer funds, others time, connections, or simply words of encouragement—and every bit of it matters.

While none of this has been done in an official capacity, leadership at Hill Air Force Base has expressed their heartfelt thanks and admiration for all the efforts made by our community. The challenge isn’t over yet, but thanks to everyone involved, there are now more resources and ongoing efforts in place to continue supporting those in need.

Words can’t fully capture what we’ve witnessed over the past two weeks. Please know how deeply grateful we are for your kindness and partnership.”
