Long time WSU President Brad Mortensen was announced as the official new President for USU on the 30th of October. Brad Mortensen has been with Weber State for the past 21 years, serving as the President since 2019.
A first-generation college graduate, Brad holds several degrees, including a doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy from the University of Utah. “This is incredibly humbling and almost unbelievable to be here. I can’t even say it’s fulfilling a dream, because it’s beyond any dream for a first-generation college graduate to become the president at their alma mater is truly just an unbelievable, unbelievable moment for me,” Mortensen said.
In a message sent out to all Aggie students, Mortensen emphasized that his first priority is to listen and learn. He said, “Over the coming weeks, I will be holding a town hall, visiting campuses, and sitting down with students, faculty, and staff. I want to hear what makes you proud, where challenges remain, where we as an institution need to do better, and how we can foster a stronger sense of belonging across USU.”
Mortensen will be stepping down as president of Weber State University on November 7 and assume his new position at Utah State University on November 10, 2025.
