Our Initiatives
- Grow the number of minority-owned Chamber organizations by:
Seeking out grant opportunities to fund Chamber membership for minority-owned organizations and underrepresented communities.
Creating opportunities for businesses to sponsor Chamber memberships for groups that need support
- Recruit and maintain Chamber members with diverse backgrounds for committee and board leadership.
- Provide scholarships for leadership opportunities for diverse communities including Women in Business and Leadership Northern Utah.
- Obtain a next generation perspective by engaging with high school and college students (including those from Ogden Peak Communication and business classes/clubs) to help create ideas for Chamber events, special projects, and membership recruitment.
- Create working relationships with diverse organizations:
Suazo Business Center: business training resources
Black Chamber of Commerce: cross-event promotion and attendance
Utah Hispanic Chamber: document translation, cross-event promotion and attendance, and business training
Asian Pacific Islander Chamber of Commerce: cross-event promotion and attendance
- Join as a member of the “Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative” and communicate and promote the initiative to Chamber members and the community.
- Support and participate in the Hill Air Force Base Project One diversity initiative.
- Develop working relationships between business and education entities to meet local classroom needs, including:
Support of school districts by engaging in service projects within underrepresented communities, such as “Bridging the Gap.”
Broaden the support for educational needs by advancing the Partners in Education committee and partnership awards.
Provide an annual scholarship to a “Student Entrepreneur of the Year.”
- Offer opportunities for middle and high school students to participate in Athena International training.
