How to be More Involved in the Community: Volunteer with the Major Brent Taylor Foundation

Being out and about in the community is a great way to meet new people, form great relationships, and find fulfilling activities to be a part of. Community involvement is at its most powerful when it honors something larger than ourselves. Volunteering is a great way to get more involved with the community, and the Major Brent Taylor Foundation has many volunteer opportunities all year round. Whether you’re placing flags, greeting guests at the gala, or helping a Gold Star family board a plane, you become part of something deeply meaningful. You become part of North Ogden fallen hero, Major Brent Taylor’s, legacy of “A life of service, is a life well-lived.”

As we approach the 250th anniversary of our country and the 25th anniversary of 9/11 this year, flag missions are a year-round volunteering opportunity. For a flag mission, you help install or retrieve American flags at homecomings, funerals, parades, and tribute events. Few moments are more powerful than welcoming a service member home or sending them off with honor. The flag missions with the Major Brent Taylor Foundation ensure these milestones are met with patriotism and gratitude, reminding them that their sacrifice is recognized and deeply appreciated.

If you wanted to do even more you could join a volunteer committee. There are 4 different volunteer committees, and they are the Fundraising Committee, which helps plan and organize the annual Leadership Legacy Gala, coordinating everything from decorations to auction items to ensure a meaningful and successful evening; the Programs Committee, which includes Veterans Week, the Gold Star Families Flight, Scholarships, and the 9/11 Project Committee, helping design exhibits, manage logistics, and create an unforgettable educational experience for the community; and the Volunteer Committee and Flag Mission Committee.

Because these events never charge admission, they rely entirely on the community’s help and volunteering to remain accessible to all.

If volunteering isn’t your thing, you could invite the Foundation’s BT5 leadership training to your next team-building event. The BT5 program teaches individuals how to lead with integrity, make a lasting impact, and strengthen their communities through service. Whether you’re a professional, student, or community member, BT5 provides the tools to help you lead with purpose. The foundation’s BT5 Leadership Training teaches five universal principles that Major Brent Taylor shared at his high school graduation speech, and lived by during his service as North Ogden Mayor, father to seven kids, and four-time deployed National Guardsman:

  1. Don’t Do Anything Stupid
  2. Work Hard
  3. Be a Good Friend
  4. Believe in Something
  5. Stick with It to the End

No matter how you can be involved, the Major Brent Taylor Foundation loves participation. If you are a business owner and are looking to grow relationships between employees, volunteering is great for corporate groups.
