Zions Bank in Ogden
In July of this year, Zions Bank will mark its 140th year serving the communities of the Intermountain West. Zions Bank was founded in 1873 by Brigham Young. In 1960, the LDS Church sold majority control of Zions First National Bank to Roy W. Simmons and other investors who created Keystone Insurance and Investment Company, which later became Zions Bancorporation.
The following decades were marked by aggressive expansion, with several Ogden-area branch locations added beginning in 1972 and continuing into the 80s and 90s. Today, Zions Bank is a subsidiary of Zions Bancorporation — which is actively traded on NASDAQ and is a member of the S&P 500 index.
Zions Bank is known for its local decision making, which is an important reason why Zions has been the state’s top lender of U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans for the past 19 consecutive years. Further support of the local business community is exemplified by the bank’s active involvement in the Ogden Weber Chamber. Zions Bank Regional President, Sherm Losee, sits on the Chamber’s Board of Directors. In 2012, the bank funded the ATHENA Award and was also a title sponsor of the Chamber’s Golf Classic.
Zions Bank has sponsored the Zions Bank Ogden Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K & Relay Race for the past decade. The race is a popular athletic event that attracts more than 1,000 runners, brings heightened visibility to Ogden, and boosts the local economy.
As a member of the Weber County community, Zions Bank contributes to a wide variety of organizations and worthy causes. Some of those include: the Rotary Club of Ogden; Youth Impact; Prevent Child Abuse Utah; United Way of Northern Utah; Catholic Community Services of Utah; Treehouse Museum; Ogden Nature Center; Ogden Downtown; and the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veteran’s Home.
Zions Bank’s Ogden employees volunteer to teach financial education classes at local schools, participate in the United Way Day of Service, and help paint the homes of elderly residents during Zions Bank’s annual Paint-a-Thon. They believe in the promise: “We haven’t forgotten who keeps us in business.”

After approximately 5,000 job applications were taken, the Ogden Startup team was hired and the Facility took their first load of product on January 5,2009.
Since the start up, the Hershey Ogden facility has been proud to support many organizations within the community. Some highlights include the Ogden Pioneer Days and the Special Needs Rodeo, the Ronald McDonald House, the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Home, and the Ogden Weber Chamber of Commerce. They have been excited to help Ogden City’s Winterfest since it began in 2010 and in the summer of 2011 Hershey teamed up with Nike to build a children’s playground in the 4th Street Softball Complex. In addition, the General Manager and Teammate Services Manager were selected by the Mayor’s office to aid in attracting new businesses to the Ogden area including CSN Stores and Home Depot.
Some of the major milestones for this facility include: In 2009, Hershey Recognized the Facility as the “Perfect Startup” for the near flawless transition from the Southern California facility to the Ogden Facility. In 2010 they maintained an OSHA Recordable rate of 0, causing the Utah Safety Council to present them with the “Perfect Record Award.” In addition, the facility received the Contract Facility of the Year award from GENCO ATC in 2010. As of December 2011 they have over 600,000 man hours without a Lost Time Accident. In 2011 they were excited to be chosen as the Pilot Facility for the Hershey and Ferrero Company Distribution Alliance.
GENCO ATC/Hershey is Honored to be receiving this award and we look forward to many more prosperous years in Ogden.

The Boyer Company is one of the largest developers of commercial real estate in the Intermountain West. The firm was founded with the philosophy of creating long-term value by building, owning and managing commercial real estate projects. H. Roger Boyer formed the company in 1972 and was joined in ownership by Kem C. Gardner in 1974.
In Weber County The Boyer Company has developed a 7.5 million square foot portfolio of office, retail and industrial space in Ogden, Riverdale, Roy, Harrisville, Marriott-Slaterville and Washington Terrace. Boyer’s investment in the county over the last 20 years exceeds $300 million and includes projects as varied as office buildings for government use in downtown Ogden to state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. These projects have helped provide jobs, revenue and places to work and play for the citizens of Weber County. Major projects by The Boyer Company in Weber County include:
The Junction is a mixed-use project that includes 51,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, Larry Miller’s 13 screen Megaplex movie theatre complex and 92 residential units at the north end. At the south end, Boyer has built a four-story, 65,000 square foot Class A office building where Wells Fargo Bank is the lead tenant together with the Ogden office of the law firm, Van Cott Bagley Cornwall and McCarthy. The Megaplex Theatres and the Salomon Center are great anchors to the project and provide a popular gathering place for downtown Ogden.
Harrisville Retail Shopping Center is located between Harrisville Road (Hwy 89) and Washington Boulevard at the north end of Ogden in Harrisville, Utah. The development is located in an area that continues to experience steady residential growth. The center consists of approximately 350,000 square feet of retail space, including the 205,000 square foot Wal-Mart Superstore.
Business Depot Ogden (BDO), formerly a busy East-West rail hub for military warehousing and distribution known as Defense Depot Ogden, has received a multi-million dollar retrofit and today is Northern Utah’s premier business and industrial park. Sitting on a sprawling 1,118 acres, BDO is the brainchild of city fathers and economic developers seeking to turn the bitter results of the 1995 Base Realignment and Closing (BRAC) process into jobs and economic development opportunities.
As the result of innovative partnership between Ogden City and The Boyer Company, BDO has undergone a $65 million infrastructure transformation. Upgrades have been made to roads, telecommunications, parking, water, sewer, buildings and the electrical grid. In addition to the infrastructure, the Boyer Company has invested an additional $125 million in new construction, while BDO tenants have invested another $80 million
into their facilities.
BDO features more than 8.9 million square feet of industrial and office space, including over 2.5 million square feet added by The Boyer Company since 2000.
The Boyer Company has just broken ground on a 106,000 square foot, $25 million office building project for the government in Ogden that will bring additional jobs and revenue to the downtown area and continue to support the growth and development of downtown Ogden.
The Boyer Company is proud to have been part of the growth of the Weber County over the past 20 years and looks forward to participating in the continued growth and development of the county over the next 20 years.

The Marriott Ogden – base camp to YOU-tah!
2008 and 2009 were two years of big change for the Marriott Ogden. The ‘physical’ side changed in 2008 with a multi-million dollar renovation, but 2009 was really all about a mental change for the hotel and the over 100 associates. The team is very proud of their hotel and really wanted it to be a bigger part of the community. They have been closely watching the way the city of Ogden has been evolving into the ‘high adventure, extreme sport’ capitol of the country. The hotel not only wanted to embrace that but fully engage it at all levels of service – “elevating life to a higher adventure” for all of our guests, no matter what their adventure in Ogden might be.
The team has taken this to heart… Gone are the formal business suits and typical hotel uniforms; business dress now consists of hiking boots, cargo pants, Columbia shirts and ski apparel.
Strong partnerships have been formed with many local adventure specialists, like Wolf Creek Resort, Alpine Sports, Salomon and Descente who are outfitting our Personal Guide teams. The hotel works closely with the Mayor’s Office, the Chamber and the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, to assist in any way with the city’s vision for the future and the growth of tourism to Ogden, such as partnering to bring events like the Junior World Archery Championships and the Xterra Games, as well as taking on the role as ‘official host hotel’ for not only the 75th Ogden Pioneer Days, but the just finished 2010 Winter Dew Tour at Snowbasin.
A very important partnership for the Marriott – a local Ogden elementary school, Washington Terrace Elementary. The hotel’s Best in Class Program allows the hotel to direct Dollars for Dreams collections to a partner school, meeting certain criteria, during the 2nd quarter of 2009. The purpose of this program is to allow each hotel (within Sage Hospitality Resources) to support a local school that serves at-risk or low-income students and families. The hotel took this 2nd quarter effort and stretched it into the entire year, offering not only well over $3,000 in contributions to the school for that quarter, but also mustering the hotel team to help tutor students, serve and support during various Parent-Teacher nights, painting the playground basketball courts and also hosting the 6th grade graduation event in the hotel’s grand ballroom.
With all the above fun and excitement, the hotel still had time to grow overall revenues by over 8%, year over year, during last year’s “extreme adventure” economic climate.
We are dedicated to elevating life to a higher adventure. Our desire to guide our guests and forge new friendships is fueled by our passion to enhance the lives of all we serve.
